Helen (Palsinzky) Pozsonyi

September 10, 1927 - January 7, 2025

Helen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on January 7th, 2025. Born in Levelek, Hungary on Sept. 10, 1927. She attended school in Nagykalo and lived in Nyirbator, Hungary until she was 21.

On Nov.8, 1948 Helen accompanied by her fiancé Bela fled Hungary to escape communist persecution. From Hungary they traveled to Austria where they lived in 3 different displaced persons camps. While living in the third camp Bela and Helen married so that they could escape to Canada together. They arrived in Fort Erie on June 10, 1949 where they were welcomed by Bela’s Uncle Eugene and Aunt Anna George. They spent the next year working in Strathroy, ON on a tobacco farm before returning to Fort Erie in 1950.

On March 1, 1950 they opened Crescent Home Hardware on Dominion Rd. in Fort Erie where they served the community until 1990.

Helen prided herself in hard work but she also knew how to enjoy life. She was very active in the Hungarian community and donated her time and resources wherever she could. Helen was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family often. Helen and Bill were also avid travellers crisscrossing the globe in search of adventure whenever the opportunity arose.

Helen is preceded by her husband Bill and brother Berti, Helen will be greatly missed by her children Aniko (Mike) Peterdy, Zoltan Pozsonyi. Grandchildren Ildiko (William) Swartz , Andrea (Jason)Hendershot, Alexandra Pozsonyi / (Robert Logan), Mitchell (Justine) Pozsonyi. And her great-grandchildren, Ava, Kira, Vienna, Attila, Nikko, Gavin, Lilianna, Nolan, and Nicholas. Helen is also survived by her brother Bill (Carmen) Pasincky and family.

Passages - End of Life Services, Ridgeway, ON has been entrusted with arrangements and cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday January 18th, 2025 at the Welland Hungarian Hall, 361 Hellems Ave., Welland, ON from 11am -12pm Visitation, 12pm - 4pm Lunch, family remarks, and sharing memories. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Welland Hungarian Hall at WellandHungarianHall.ca or a charity of your choosing.
