Lubbert Doornekamp

1944 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts the family of Lubbert Doornekamp announce his peaceful passing at the age of 80 at Douglas Memorial Hospital on Saturday February 15, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lubbert is survived by his beloved wife  of 57 years Sharon ( née Green ), his 2 children who he was immensely proud of and loved dearly Shellee ( Joe ) Jackson, and Bryan Doornekamp ( Trina ).

He was the proud Papa of Joshua Jackson (Cassandra), Connor Jackson ( Maddie), and Cambria Fretz. Bonus Papa to Issac, Ardon, and Ethan Logan and Carley Chamberlain, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Lubbert will also be missed by his siblings Raymond ( Maria ) Doornekamp, Irene Doornekamp and Sara ( Jerry ) Mathes. Sister in law Alta Near Doornekamp, and sister and brother in law Cathy and Steve May. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and their families. Lubbert was predeceased by his parents Elbert and Sara Doornekamp, sister Arendje (in Holland ), and brother Elbert Doornekamp in 2024. 

Lubbert was born in Nijkerk, Holland and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1952.  He was a long standing member of Fort Erie Fire Company #2, The LaFrance Association and the Fort Erie Lions Club. Lubbert spent most of his career at The Feed Mill in Stevensville, trucking feed for Doornekamp Bros. and working in the plant in his later years.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Scher and his nursing staff for their compassion and support during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life to honour Lubbert will take place at a later date.

Passages End of Life Services has been entrusted with Lubbert's care and cremation has taken place.
